Speech-Language Program

This program provides services to children with developmental needs in communication and/or feeding, from birth to school entry.

Areas of concern could include:

- Understanding of words and sentences.

- Talking in words and sentences.

- Pronunciation.

- Voice quality.

- Speech fluency (i.e. repeating sounds/words; stuttering)

- Interest in other people.

- Using words and body language as a way to connect with other people.

- Playing and interacting with other children.

- Hearing.

- Voice.

- Feeding (e.g., coughing/gagging/choking when eating or drinking; poor weight gain; picky eating) 

 

The Speech and Language Program provides:

- Assessment.

- Recommendations for treatment and/or further referrals.

- Individual and small group therapy sessions.

- Monitoring for children at risk for communication or feeding needs.

- Ongoing consultation with families and other team members.

- Workshops for parents/caregivers and child care providers.

 

It is important that any needs in talking, understanding, social development, or feeding are identified as soon as possible. Early assessment and intervention can make a big difference in your child's development and well-being.

Speech-Language Pathologists have a Master's Degree or equivalent in Speech-Language Pathology, are members of the Canadian Association of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists, and are registered with the College of Speech and Hearing Health Professionals of BC.
