Position:
Vocational Counsellor
Nature of position:
Permanent Full-Time
37.5 hours per week. Typically: Monday-Friday, however, will involve evening and weekends (dependent on client and service support needs). Flexibility in shifts / schedules is an ongoing requirement in this position.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES -
Can include but not limited to:
The facilitation of meetings to check in on the status of goals monthly or on and as needed basis.
Creation, implementation and evaluation of goals.
Assisting individuals with Employment plans (resumes, job applications, interviews, job coaching, fade out plans).
Provide job site training and work effectively with others in a wide variety of work environments.
Participation in activities with the goal of moving towards individual independence.
Providing support to a wide range of individuals with varying abilities and desires.
Use of your personal vehicle daily and public transport.
Marketing of individual skills to potential employers.
Customizing/carving jobs based on individual and employer needs.
Teaching skills using a variety of different learning styles (visual, audio, written).
Connection with community resources / opportunities for individuals to continue to develop skills to independence.
Provide access and ability to access lifelong learning opportunities within the community.
Provide support to individuals to learn at their own pace to help develop independence.

Requirements:
Current First Aid and CPR, negative TB test results, current Criminal Record Check as per Association policy, valid Class 5 Driver’s license with business insurance*.
Qualifications / Knowledge / Skills:
Graduate or certificate/diploma in human sciences or employment counselling, or a combination of education and experience.
Knowledge of The Employment Standards Act and The Charter of Rights.
Knowledge of persons with diverse abilities, FASD, and autism.
Knowledge of the local labour market and employment opportunities as well as community resources within the Campbell River area.
The ability to demonstrate evidence of developing and implementing employment and support plans.
The ability to provide job site training and work effectively with community employers in a wide variety of work environments.
Strong understanding of the differences in Learning, Inclusion, Friendships, Employment, and how they apply to the support provided to the individuals within the services.
Strong understanding in the development of natural supports for persons served.
Understanding of user driven services and how they pertain to the individual supported.
Knowledge of direct vs indirect supports.
Strong ability to work independently and within a team. Self-motivation is key.
Must be flexible based on the needs of the person served/ Employer: including regular weekend and evening work.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong organizational and PC skills.
